A properly fertilized lawn isn’t just greener—it’s healthier, more resilient, and naturally resistant to weeds and disease. At Vita Green LLC, we create customized fertilization and weed control programs that nourish your lawn while protecting the environment and your family’s safety.
Why Professional Fertilization Matters
Scientific fertilization makes all the difference. Professional programs provide balanced nutrition that promotes deep root growth and stress resistance, prevent nutrient deficiencies that cause yellowing, thinning, and susceptibility to disease, ensure proper application timing for maximum effectiveness, and use the right products for your specific grass type and soil conditions. Generic, store-bought fertilizers use a one-size-fits-all approach that often doesn’t match your lawn’s actual needs, wasting money and potentially harming your turf.
Why Weed Control Is Essential
Weeds don’t just look bad—they compete with grass for water, nutrients, and sunlight. Left unchecked, weeds will overtake even the healthiest lawn. However, a thick, well-fertilized lawn is your best defense against weeds. When grass is dense and vigorous, there’s simply no room for weed seeds to germinate and establish.
Our Fertilization & Weed Control Services
Soil Testing & Analysis
We start with science. Soil testing reveals pH levels, nutrient deficiencies, and organic matter content. This data allows us to create a truly customized program rather than guessing. We recommend testing every 2-3 years or when moving into a new property.
Customized Fertilization Programs
Based on soil test results and your lawn’s specific needs, we develop a tailored fertilization schedule. Central Washington’s climate requires a different approach than other regions—our programs account for local soil types, seasonal temperature patterns, and grass varieties common to our area.
We offer 2 plans for fertilization: Basic and Premium. Both are 5 applications per season:
- Application 1: Fertilizer and Pre-emergent
- Application 2: Fertilizer, Pre-emergent, and Broadleaf Herbicide Application
- Application 3 & 4: Special summer fertilizer for our summer temperatures
- Application 5: Winter fertilizer with pre-emergent again
With the Premium plan, you get weed touch-up in the lawn during all fertilizer applications. For those who want the healthiest lawn possible, we even offer 6 applications per season.
Pre-Emergent Weed Control
Prevention is the best strategy. Pre-emergent herbicides create a barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating. Applied at the right time (typically early spring), these treatments stop crabgrass, foxtail, and other annual weeds before they appear. Timing is critical—too early or too late and the treatment is ineffective.
Post-Emergent Weed Control
For existing weeds, we use targeted post-emergent herbicides that eliminate broadleaf weeds like dandelions, clover, and thistle without harming grass. We spot-treat problem areas rather than blanket-spraying entire lawns, minimizing chemical use while maximizing effectiveness.
Low-Impact Options
We offer reduced-chemical programs for customers who prefer environmentally gentle approaches. These programs use targeted applications and cultural practices to minimize chemical use while maintaining effective results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I fertilize my lawn? Our programs recommend 5 applications per season, and even 6 for those who want the healthiest lawn possible. Our Basic and Premium plans both include 5 applications, with Premium adding weed touch-up during all fertilizer applications. Over-fertilizing is as harmful as under-fertilizing, so proper timing and rates are essential.
Is fertilizer safe for children and pets? When applied correctly, modern fertilizers are very safe. We recommend keeping children and pets off treated areas until watering is complete and the lawn is dry, typically 24 hours.
Why do I still have weeds after fertilizing? Fertilization and weed control are separate treatments, though they work together. Fertilization makes grass healthier and more competitive, but existing weeds require herbicide treatment. A comprehensive program includes both fertilization and weed control.
When is the best time to apply pre-emergent weed control? In central Washington, early to mid-spring (March-April) is ideal for preventing summer annual weeds like crabgrass. The key is applying when soil temperatures reach 50-55°F—this is when weed seeds begin to germinate.
Can you eliminate all weeds? While we can dramatically reduce weed populations, achieving 100% weed-free status is unrealistic and would require excessive chemical use. Our goal is a healthy, attractive lawn where grass dominates and occasional weeds are minimal and manageable.
What type of fertilizer do you use? We use high-quality synthetic fertilizers that provide immediate nutrient availability and produce rapid green-up. Our programs are designed with proper timing and rates to promote healthy, balanced growth without excessive applications.
Will fertilizing make my grass grow too fast? No. Proper fertilization promotes balanced growth—healthy roots and moderate top growth. Over-fertilizing or using high-nitrogen fertilizers at the wrong time can cause excessive growth, but our programs are designed to avoid this issue.
How long before I see results? You’ll notice improved color within 7-10 days of fertilizer application. Thicker, healthier grass takes longer—expect visible improvement in density and weed reduction after 4-6 weeks of consistent treatment. Significant transformation typically occurs over one full growing season.
