Start a Wenatchee Yard Redo With the Plants That Still Work

A valley renovation that starts with a blank-slate plant list usually pays twice. Once to remove trees that were healthy, and again to wait years for shade on a west wall that already had it.

Tag keepers in person

Walk the lot in heat, not from a winter photo. Mark trees that still leaf fully. Mark stone that is not heaving. Mark a lawn panel that stays even under current water. Those stay unless they block a required drain or a documented failure.

Photograph each keeper. A landscaping proposal should list them by name, not as “existing material.”

Drainage and irrigation are not decorations

A pretty bed that sits in a low bowl will fail the first cloudburst. A new patio that covers the only cleanout will fail the first backup. Fix water paths before plant shopping.

If coverage is already honest, do not rip the system for a style change. Adjust heads after hardscape. If coverage is already a patchwork of dry bananas, budget a real irrigation repair as part of the redo, not as a surprise.

Maintenance has to survive the new design

Complete lawn maintenance crews need to reach every bed without walking a four-inch gap between a wall and a fence. If the new plan looks dense on paper, ask who mows, who prunes, and where the hose bib stays. A design that cannot be maintained is a second renovation in three years.
