Thatching and Aerating

  • Thatch Removal:  Thatch is a layer of dead grass and clippings that build up between the soil and top of your lawn.  An excess of thatch prevents proper penetration of air, water, and plant nutrients.  Disease and insect injury are generally more severe where thatch is allowed to build up.  Removal is essential for a healthy lawn.  For best results our thatching is a 3 step program, which includes power-thatching, hand raking and mowing.
  • Core Aeration:  Aeration is the removal of small cores of soil to allow air, moisture, and fertilizer to quickly get to the root zone.  Aeration reduces soil compaction, severs the roots to promote new growth, and retards thatch buildup by increasing the micro-organism activity and allowing thatch to decompose naturally.  It is recommended that you have two per season to avoid compaction.
